The Heartbreaking Final Text Sent By Manchester Bombing Victim Olivia Campbell

The week the city of Manchester was rocked to its foundation by the worst terrorist attack in the United Kingdom since the 7/7 bombings in 2007. At approximately 22.33 at the Manchester Arena, at the end of a live performance by Ariana Grande as part of her Dangerous Woman tour, a 22-year-old radical Islamist and Mancunian native named Salman Abedi detonated a homemade explosive device in a crowd in the foyer of the venue.

As a result of the explosion, 23 people (including the terrorist) lost their lives, while a further 59 were left critically injured. Most tragic of all was the fact that many of the people killed and wounded in the attack were children and adolescents; fans of Grande who wanted to see their idol live and paid the ultimate price for their aspirations.

Ariana Grande to return to Manchester to perform benefit concert

Ariana Grande has promised that she will return to Manchester following the terror attack there to spend time with her fans  and to "have a benefit concert in honour of and to raise money for the victims and their family."

Grande announced her intentions in an uplifting letter posted online that called on her fans to have courage following the attacks, and expressed a deep sense of sorrow for those lost and the families who are mourning their loved ones following the "heinous" attack.

Court admits N136m recovered from Justice Ngwuta

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday admitted in evidence about N136 million recovered from the house of Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court in October 2016. Also admitted were nine bags in which the monies were contained.

The breakdown of the money is: N35,358,000, £25,915; $319,596; R50 (South African rands); €280; 380 (dirhams); and 420 Gambian dalasis. Ngwuta is standing trial on a13-count charge bothering on passport fraud, money laundering, retention and concealment of origin of the various sums of money contained in the nine bags and boxes.

Armed police have cordoned off a road in Greater Manchester in connection to Monday's suicide bombing.

Eyewitnesses described seeing a dozen police cars, police helicopters, bomb disposal vans and officers on the scene near Wigan Lane.

Supreme Court confirms Messi fraud sentence

Spain’s Supreme Court on Wednesday confirmed a 21-month jail sentence and 2.09-million-euro ($2.25 million) fine imposed on Lionel Messi for tax fraud, months after the Barcelona football star lodged an appeal.

The Argentina international and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were in  July 2016 found guilty of using companies in Belize, Britain, Switzerland and Uruguay to avoid paying taxes on 4.16 million euros of Messi’s income earned from his image rights from 2007-09.

Three female suicide bombers die in another attack on Maiduguri

Three teenage girls, all armed with explosive devices worn around their bodies, on Tuesday evening detonated their explosives at the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, as security operatives tried to stop them from entering the city, police said.

Multiple explosions reverberated across Maiduguri during the late evening rush hour forcing vehicles to screech to a halt as commuters tried to figure from which area the attack may been coming.

One dead as container falls in Lagos

One person was confirmed dead on Tuesday after a trailer conveying a 40-foot container fell at Motorways bus stop, outward Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The trailer, with registration number LSD 379 XT, developed a mechanical fault and fell on the road leaving the driver and motor boy trapped, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

Drama in Jos court as accused, threatens to kill witnesses

Justice Rifkatu Sha of Jos High Court on Tuesday warned an accused person, Tasiu Mohammed, 21, against threatening witnesses testifying against him.

The warning came when Mohammed was caught making gestures indicating that he would slash the throats of  the witnesses, while they stood in the dock.
