Idahosa Trails: The Review By Zizi Onianwah

'Idahosa Trails' a film by Stanlee Ohikhuare guarantees to be packed with agog, drama, mild action and spirituality. The purpose of the film is to bring faith to the big screen and revive a religious revival within the Christian communities. The film was produced by Mighty Jot Studios and will be distributed by Film One Distribution. The story and screenplay were written by Stanlee Ohikhuare. He’s also the Director, Cinematographer, Lighting Designer and overall Production Designer.

Idahosa Trails is about the experience of an American Journalist (David Schifter) who seeks to interview a reputable preacher (Idahosa). This is based on his perception of the preacher’s role in the miraculous recovery of a chief in comatose for six years. He’s introduced to a younger pastor played by (Kunle Idowu ) aka Frank Donga, who agrees to be of assistance. It’s an adventure to get a remarkable story that ends up in a life changing encounter.

Among the cast are the Emmy Award winning David Schifter, Patrick Doyle, Osas Ajibade, Liz Ameye, Charles Okafor, Joshua Osula, Anita Ohaeri, Patience Usiahon, Promise Ogbonna, Precious Adigwe, Florence Iyamu, Aimienofona Efekomwaro, Anointed Enoma and Jonathan Nwachukwu. The film also introduces Daisy Morsi and Adedamola Akapo, both final year students at the University of Benin. This is their first acting opportunity.

Idahosa is set to be released 27th of October 2017.

This is a film I will personally like to watch, because it breaks the norm from what we have been seeing in the Nigerian box office in recent times. I also like the fact that new faces and veterans are among the cast. There are so many facts about this film I am drawn to:

MOVIE PACE: suspense, drama, mild action and spirituality.

TONALITY & LIGHTING DESIGN: the story telling explores the generous use of emotion – drivers including suspense, uncertainty, hope and victory to create emotional curves that will keep the viewers entertained. Pictorially, graded tonality will utilize the color chart to depict unfolding feelings.

SCORE: the music score will reflect both original classical film sound samples and traditional Bini compositions; to be used intently to convey a wide variety of predetermined emotions.
ART DIRECTION:  the film shows  vivid portrayal of life in the old Bini city as a way of creating a believable contrast between the Bini of old and the Benin city that was eventually captured for Christ by archbishop Benson Idahosa has  the seasons change, so does  the art direction.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: the cinematography explores in detail, the emotional characteristics of the full color spectrum; from the infrared to the ultraviolet. Computer generated digital art was used to embellish surreal scenes to enable us to push the boundaries of reality.

CASTING:  heavily physical likeness for the characters of Benson Idahosa and his wife. However, for other characters, emphasis was on getting the perfect actors to efficiently interpret the roles, irrespective of their experience level.

STORY -TELLING MECHANISM:  drama, reenactments of actual historic events, audible narratives (suggestive of Benson Idahosa’s voice and that of the other lead characters)

NARRATIVE CONTENT: the narrative content of the movie is reflected in the screenplay.

THE PURPOSE OF THE MOVIE: the purpose of this movie is to inspire faith in a faithless world.
