Alleged $16.4m debt: Judge’s absence stalls hearing of suit against Stella Oduah

The absence of Justice Ayokunle Faji of a Federal High Court in Lagos Tuesday stalled the hearing of a suit filed by Sterling Bank Plc against Senator Stella Oduah and her firm, Sea Petroleum and Gas Company Limited over alleged $16.4million and N100.5 million debts.

The judge had at the last adjourned date fixed Tuesday for the hearing of all pending applications in the suit. Hearing of the matter has now been fixed for June 29.

External reserves drop by $494m in three weeks

Nigeria’s external reserves, which have been on a downward slide since May 5, 2017, fell to $30.5 billion on May 25, indicating a decline of $494 million in 21 days, data on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s website showed yesterday.

The reserves have been rising steadily since March 28, moving from $30.3 billion to $30.988 billion as at May 4.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, said occupants of the three-storey building which collapsed on Monday in Lagos failed to heed its repeated warnings to vacate the house.

LASBCA Acting General Manager, Oyewale Joseph, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos that the building collapsed due to weak foundation and use of substandard materials.
