A notorious car snatcher/armed robber identified as Mike Solomon Aondo was on June 18,  nabbed at Obolloafor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu state along Otukpo/obolloafor road by the operatives of the safer highways of the Enugu state command on stop and search.

Nigerian court rules against mass eviction in Lagos - activists

A series of brutal, government-ordered evictions that left more than 30,000 Nigerians homeless were deemed "unconstitutional" in a landmark decision by the Lagos High Court on Wednesday, activists said.

Pope donates $550,000 to South Sudan

The Vatican has announced that it is donating about $515,000 towards aid projects in South Sudan, AFP news agency reports.

The move comes after Pope Francis dropped plans to visit South Sudan because of security fears in a country hit by myriad conflicts since it gained independence from Sudan in 2011.

The $515,000 would be spent on two hospitals run by nuns, a teacher training programme and a project to buy seeds and tools for some 2,500 farming families.

Speaking at a press conference at the Vatican, Ghana’s Bishop Peter Turkson said the aid was a “concrete sign” of the pontiff’s closeness to the people of South Sudan.

INEC ready for diaspora voting, calls for funds

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has urged the National Assembly to quicken the amendment of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.

Yakubu made the call in Ibadan on Wednesday, at an International Conference organised by the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan.

Court grants N5 million bail each to teenagers accused of raping 13-year-old girl

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday granted bail to two teenagers accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.

The suspects, James Teikura and Elijah Kufre, 17 years old each, were charged to court by the Nigeria Police Force after they were accused of raping a 13-year-old whom they allegedly captured at a bush path where she had gone to ease herself in April 2016.

Banks seek EFCC investigation of Etisalat Nigeria over $1.2 billion loan

Strong indications emerged on Wednesday that a consortium of 13 banks, involved in Etisalat Nigeria’s 1.2 billion dollars loan is seeking the Federal Government’s intervention to investigate the management.
