DSS Arrests Terrorists Planning to Attacks on Sallah Day


In the past few weeks, this Service has uncovered a sinister plot by terrorist elements to stage series of coordinated attacks using explosives on different cities across the country.  Their aim was to hit on soft targets such as markets, public parks, public processions, recreation centres, as well as worship centres especially the Eid Praying Grounds and other densely populated areas during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration.  The latest plan by the terrorists was to unleash mayhem on Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri. 

Police nab six suspected armed robbers, recover weapons, car

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers terrorising residents at Agbara Road and Atan-Ota in Ogun and Lagos States respectively.

The hoodlums were apprehended by operatives of the command on patrol at Progress Hotel, situated along Agbara Road.

Nigerian journalist arrested in Kaduna

A Kaduna-based journalist, Ibraheema Yakubu, who reports for the Hausa service of Deutsche Welle, DW radio, Germany, was arrested Friday by the police while covering a clash between Shiite sect and a Kaduna community.

Two people were injured and 10 arrested after locals attacked Shiites during an annual Quds procession.

A statement released by the Ministry of Power on Friday noted that in a bid to resolve power challenges in institutions of higher learning in the country, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the universities.

$1.2b Etisalat loan: CBN, NCC intervene to save jobs, asset stripping

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Friday intervened in the $1.2 billion controversial syndicated loan owed by Etisalat Nigeria to a consortium of 13 local banks.

The regulators’ intervention was to save jobs of over 4,000 workers employed by Etisatat and prevent asset stripping.

Woman drugs, sleeps with underage boys in her car

A 36-year-old school therapist, Jacqueline Bryce Herron, has been accused of drugging and seducing two underage boys and having sex with them.

Daily Star UK, reports that Herron has been charged with 28 counts of sex with teenage boys, including sodomy.

Grenfell Tower fire: UK police considering manslaughter charges

The British police say they are considering manslaughter charges as part of the investigation into the deadly Grenfell Tower fire, after reports that highly toxic gases emitted by the building’s external cladding as it burnt, killing most of the residents.

The Metropolitan Police said on Thursday that every criminal offence is being considered after it was revealed that police had captured documents and materials from a "number of organizations.”

The Supreme Court has sacked Herman Hembe from the House of Representatives.

Mr. Hembe, who represents Vandikwa/ Konshisha constituency of Benue State was not the valid candidate of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, the court ruled.

UN probes Congo atrocities

The UN Human Rights Council launched an international investigation on Friday into killings and other atrocities in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The 47-member Geneva forum adopted by consensus a resolution brought by African countries which also called on the Kinshasa government to cooperate with the team of international experts.

Police confirm origin of deadly London tower fire

Police said on Friday that the fire that engulfed a London tower block killing at least 79 people started in a Hotpoint “WHR.N” fridge freezer and cladding on the building failed all safety tests.

Police Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said the Hotpoint model, “FF175BP”, was not subject to recall and that the manufacturer was doing further tests.

“We now have expert evidence that the fire was not started deliberately,” McCormack said.

EFCC arraigns ex-Minister of FCT, Jumoke Akinjide for N650m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, June 22, 2017, arraigned a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide and one Olanrewaju Otiti before Justice J.O Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on an amended 12-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N650 million.

While Akinjide and Otiti are facing trial on counts one to 12 of the amended charge, the third accused person, Senator Ayo Ademola Adeseun, who failed to appear in court today, is facing trial on counts one to 24.

FAAC Shares N462bn for May 2017


A total of N462.359 billion has been distributed  as Federal Allocation for the month of May, 2017  to the  Federal Government, State Governments and Local Government Councils.

The  communiqué issued by the Technical sub-Committee of Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) at the end of the meeting held today in Abuja signed by the Ag. Accountant General of The Federation, indicated that the gross statutory revenue of N317.562 billion received for the month is higher than the  N274.110 billion received in the previous month by N43.452 billion.
